Posted on Despoina TsakiriVerified We remain profoundly grateful for the experience at Mandrare River Camp We feel incredibly fortunate to have experienced the beauty of Madagascar. This place is truly a gem in many ways. It has shown us the untouched wonders of nature, the authentic flavors of fruits, and the enchanting kingdom of lemurs. It has taught us humility, kindness, gratitude, and the profound impact of even the simplest gesture. Our deepest gratitude goes to Mandrare River Camp and its General Manager, David. It is there that we felt the most profound emotions and gained a deep appreciation for both the people and the natural beauty of the land. At Mandrare River Camp, we felt that our small contribution was part of something significant. The community work by Mandrare River Camp is truly outstanding. From our initial visit to the village, it was evident how much Mandrare River Camp contributes to the well-being of these people. At the Mandrare River Camp, we were able to enjoy the unique offerings of Madagascar to the fullest. Had we not included this in our itinerary, we would have missed the essential purpose of our journey: to gain an authentic understanding of the untouched Madagascar, whose future existence remains uncertain. After this small introduction I would like to cover the experience at the Camp Even after a brief conversation with the kind Antoine, the manager of the local tour agency, we still had some lingering concerns. However, as soon as we set foot in the camp, the extraordinary kindness of the people there put us at ease. We quickly forgot our exhaustion from the long flight. When asked where we had traveled from, we were deeply touched by the gratitude expressed by the team for choosing their distant Madagascar for our holiday. We are a family of four and we greatly value comfort. The team at the Madrare River Camp, along with David, ensured our three-night stay in the tents was exceptionally comfortable and adhered to our safety needs. Despite it being August, our tents were warm throughout the nights. Moreover, the showers were quite comfortable, providing ample hot water. The distance between our two tents was perfect, and we had everything we needed, including adequate lighting. Despite the island's supply limitations, the food was exceptionally well-prepared. The simple yet delicious meals met all our needs. All experiences with the knowledgeable tour guides were truly exceptional and memorable Our only significant challenge was the limited WiFi in the tents, which increased our safety concerns. David, the manager, has shown exceptional personal care and has trained a remarkable team. We were fortunate to have engaged with him frequently during our stay, enriching our international experiences. Thank you, Mandrare team, and a special thanks to David for providing us with everything we needed to fully appreciate the unique and authentic experience of Madagascar. Thank you, David, for always being just a moment away, even when we interrupted your well-deserved post-dinner rest. And always showing your understanding. We remain profoundly grateful. Thank you Mandrare team for making our days truly memorablePosted on Antoine DVerified Loved it Great family holiday. My two teenage children loved the guiding, wildlife viewing and cultural experiences. The food was delicious, staff very attentive, and very comfortable tents and camp. We're now planning on going to its sister-camp for next year.Posted on MashkaVerified Remote and luxurious We spent 3 nights in this remote camp. Everything was well organized, staff is very attentive, our guide Theo was superb! Big thanks to the entire staff and David, the camp manager!Posted on Carolyn JVerified You may be surprised As an eco-tourism location, Mandrare does some impressive things for the local communities, paying farmers to preserve the spiney forest, emergency health care and building a school, for example. It’s therefore regrettable that it takes such a careless approach to its guests. Is there really no alternative to overfirm beds? Some resorts, such as Amandari and Safire, are content to surprise guests with the quality of their cultural and other experiences, not the mere fact of them. So if you agree to a late afternoon visit to a cultural site, do not be surprised if you are shanghaied into a several hour event for which you were not warned or prepared. And upon raising an objection, expect the following response from the manager: “we surprise our guests.”Posted on WorksopVerified Wonderful location and wildlife Enjoyed three nights at this beautiful camp. The setting is stunning on the bank of the Mandrare River. The natural grounds were full of surprises including a radiated tortoise, chameleons and nightjars. The day and night excursions were exceptional, especially the safe drivers and knowledgeable guides, giving access to spiny and sacred forests to view lemurs in their natural habitat. A highlight was visiting Lac Anony and seeing 100s of Greater Flamingos.Posted on Jonathan MVerified Perfect family stay. The lodge couldn’t have been more welcoming to our family (kids aged 12 & 15) with everything from hot water bottles for the chilly nights to the beautiful pool for afternoon dips. Food, staff and tents were all first class. The wildlife was amazing, the local tribes incredibly friendly and the lodge adds so many extra touches like sublime sundowners and dining under the stars. We can’t wait to go back.Posted on Keith GVerified Exceeded all expectations Just left mandate river camp Exceeded all expectations The manager David , made us feel welcome the instant we arrived and was fantastic company Many surprises laid on by his excellent staff Special mention to Theo who was clearly proud of the culture and wildlife and showed us so much Accommodation was excellent, food fantastic honestly couldn’t fault anything ,and I tried !Posted on Daria AVerified A trip of a lifetime. Exceeded all expectations - staff are superstars and really care Exceeded all expectations on all accounts - food, room comfort, facilities, and flora & fauna experiences. If you're considering a visit, rest assured you'll have one of the most memorable trips ever, even if you're an experienced traveller. The staff make you feel like family, each and every person really cares about their guests. The baobab dinner is unforgettable.Posted on Jen FVerified Took my breath away!! Spectacular on SO many levels not sure where to begin!! Our accommodations were comfortable and beautiful and set in the most lush surroundings. (Chameleons right outside our door!!) The staff were so warm and welcoming and catered to our every need. And obviously, the reason most people travel to Madagascar, THE LEMURS. Gazing into the eyes of a completely wild lemur from just a few feet away took my breath away. If that weren’t enough they also surprised us on our last night with happy hour and a show from the local village among the towering boabab trees. By the time we left we were floating on air. CANNOT RECOMMEND HIGH ENOUGH!! (One word of caution: traveling to AND through Madagascar can be very tricky. Using a top notch travel agent is a MUST.
